SMS stands for Short Message Service, and it is synonymous with text message, Text, TXT, etc. An SMS (text message) is a short message, which can be sent to and from a cellular phone.
Nearly all phones purchased in the last ten years are capable of sending and receiving text messages.
Every carrier offers different text messaging packages.
A text message is limited to 160 characters. Characters means letters, numbers, spaces, symbols and punctuation. Messages over 160 characters will be split into multiple messages.
Text messages are usually delivered to mobile phones in a few seconds to a few minutes. During peak hours, there could be a short delay. Please note that additional delays may occur if recipient's phone is turned off or out of the coverage area. When this happens a carrier will attempt to deliver your message for up to 72 hours.
A Short Code is a 5 digit or 6 digit number, to which text messages can be sent from a mobile phone. Wireless subscribers send text messages to short codes to access a wide variety of mobile content. Common short codes are easy to remember and they are compatible across all participating carriers.
No. As text messaging is a store-and-forward technology dependent on carriers and their networks, it is impossible to guarantee delivery of a text message.
Unfortunately it isn't possible to send a message from a name as phone calls and text messages always come from a phone number. There are two different kinds of phone numbers: a regular ten digit number like the one you have on your cell phone and a short code, which is a special five or six digit number like ours. For a message to appear from a name it must be stored in the address book of your phone. If you notice when you get a text message or call from a person who is not in your phone book, it shows up as from their ten digit number and not a name since it is not stored on your phone; the same applies to a short code.
Text messages are a brief, effective, inexpensive means of communication. Most people carry their cellular phones with them wherever they go, so unlike email, text messages can reach people when they are away from their desks.
Incoming messages are free. Your outbound messages can be as cheap as $0.0039. This is our pricing on the PRO plan, and it is the lowest rate you will see on the internet.
Certain mobile carriers charge a small fee for each SMS message. This fee is called a carrier fee. You pay these fees at the end of each billing period. Current carrier fees are shown here:
Carrier | Fee in USD |
---|---|
AT&T | 0.002500 |
Verizon | 0.002500 |
T-Mobile/MetroPCS | 0.002500 |
US Cellular | 0.003500 |
Sprint/Boost/Virgin | 0.005000 |
Interop Carrier Group | 0.001500 |
Clear Sky Carrier Group | 0.001500 |

Yes! This is what subkeywords are for. Subkeywords let you use common, short keywords like 1,2,3 or a,b,c (that are not available as regular keywords) as a suggested response to your outbound group text message. In your message entice your customers to respond to your group message with that subkeyword, e.g. "... reply 'YES' if you will be attending tonight." Viola! Your customer response will appear as an entry in your new subkeyword. You can change your keywords and subkeywords at any time to meet your needs. Watch the "How do I edit a campaign" video on the Videos page to see how easy it is to customize your keywords and their bounceback messages.
Yes. You have the ability to enter a single telephone number when you compose your message and select "Send Test Microblog".
First, please make sure that the recipient has text messaging enabled with his/her carrier. Next, if your recipient uses a pre-paid mobile phone service, his/her balance may be too low (assuming he/she pays for incoming text messages). Other reasons that a recipient may not receive a text message include (but are not limited to): memory full, out of network, and a number typed incorrectly.
Yes. We charge you one credit every time our system sends a text message on your behalf.
A Keyword is a unique term (letters and/or numbers) that people can use to communicate with you via a Short Code.
Text KEYWORD to 94253. That is an example of a keyword in action. Watch the video called "How to Edit a Campaign" on the Videos page to learn how to edit your keywords at any time. Let's say that you have changed one of your keywords to APPLESAUCE by following the directions in our videos. Your friends and customers can then send a message beginning with the Keyword APPLESAUCE to 94253 to automatically join your Group Messaging list. Our software will respond to them for you, with a customizable message, confirming that they have joined (Opted-In) to your Group SMS list.
As long as the Keyword you want is available, you can register it through your account panel. You can use any combination of letters and numbers.
According to carrier guidelines you must include the following:
If you're running multiple campaigns targeting different groups of people you might want to use different Keywords to segment those groups - or to segment the performance of different advertisements. You can use your subkeywords to capture responses to your outbound group messages. Our simple and flexible system allows you to intuitively create these campaigns, with the flexibility that your marketing and compliance needs require.
Available Keywords is the quantity of keywords and subkeywords that you are able to use at the current time, with no additional cost. You will incur additional cost if you add additional keywords or subkeywords in excess of your plan allotment. At the end of each billing period, your Available Keywords will update to reflect the number of active keywords you have. Fees and costs associated with additional keywords are associated with your plan and are shown on your account home page.
